Later, depart for Ranthambhore, stopping en route to visit the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. Built in the 16th century by Emperor Akbar, this ghost town is remarkably well preserved and presents a perfect synthesis of Muslim, Hindu and Jain architecture. The sculptured columns bear mute testimony to this gallant experiment to unite Hindus and Muslims. Continue on to Ranthambhore, the remains of a 1,000-year-old fortress, which is used today as a wildlife sanctuary, where leopards and tigers prowl.
